  • The Magnificent Seven Rides Again!

    >From UltimateTV:

CBS confirmed to UltimateTV this afternoon that they are bringing back "The Magnificent Seven" midseason. The drama debuted this past January to good numbers. Michael Biehn and Ron Perlman will be back.
It has also been confirmed that the rest of the cast remains intact.

To everyone who wrote to CBS in support of the show - thank you!! Our efforts have not gone unrewarded!

To the cast and crew of the show - we look forward to seeing you in the fall!!

June 6, 1998

June 3, 1998

  • UltimateTV has a news blurb on their website titled Jury Still Out on "Magnificent Seven":
The fate of CBS' midseason drama "The Magnificent Seven" is still undecided. CBS said last week that they would have an answer by Friday about whether or not they'll bring the show back next midseason. UltimateTV gave the Eye Network a call to find out the fate of the drama, which starred Ron Perlman and Michael Biehn (among others), and was told that CBS would be making a decision this week. So stay tuned.
This seems in line with the news from USA Today on June 1 (below). "Last week" would refer to the May 29 contract extension, "this week" would refer to the Wednesday contract extension extension. The article also sports pictures of Ron Perlman and Michael Biehn.

I believe the fact that UltimateTV considers these negotiations newsworthy is a tribute to the fan response to the show.

June 1, 1998

  • From USA Today:
BRIEFLY: CBS has extended its option on The Magnificent Seven
through Wednesday while trying to iron out a renewal deal with
             MGM/UA Television for midseason. . . . CBS' 48 Hours
newsmagazine goes twice a week this summer. The new 48 bumps
reruns of canceled Brooklyn South (Mondays at 10 p.m. ET/PT)
             beginning June 22.

  • We haven't given up! We are in the process of developing a plan of communication - stay tuned for details!

In the meantime, contact your local CBS affiliate - particularly the large metropolitan ones - and let them know you want to see the show return!

May 20, 1998

  • CBS, in its infinite wisdom, has decided to return to the cookie-cutter mold of hour long dramas for the 1998 - 1999 season. They have announced the addition of one Doctor, two Cop, and one Private Eye series for their fall schedule, and have chosen not to renew The Magnificent Seven.

If you enjoy the show, please continue to write to CBS and let them know of your interest, so that when one or all of their new series die the "bo-ring!" death, they are aware of the unfailing interest in this unique western so they may consider its return. Addresses can be found at The Watering Hole.

  • Also check out the Magnificent Seven FAQ for more information about the show's status and how to show your support. The show may still be in consideration for a midseason replacement.

May 12, 1998

  • The Boston Herald ran an article about the ad in their "Around the Dial" section today. They don't call it "Biehntown" for nothing!

I am currently looking for web-archived versions of these articles, as the USA Today page is updated daily. If you know of an archived version, please let me know.

May 8, 1998

  • More show and ad coverage: Exci te Entertainment News (though it should be noted that the name of the show is The Magnificent Seven, not Wanted: The Magnificent Seven).

May 7, 1998

  • Variety columnist Army Archerd drew further attention to the ad and the show today. He points out that the ad was paid for by the fans, though his paragraph contains a few minor inaccuracies (the group was not "led by" anyone - it was a collaborative effort on the part of numerous viewers, with Patricia acting as media spokesperson).

May 5, 1998

  • The ad in Daily Variety that ran on May 5 has gained the attention of the Associated Press. KCBS in Los Angeles picked up the story and has posted it on their website.

  • There has been some speculation in chat and in the Mailing List as to the actual name of the town in the series. An excerpt from UltimateTV
"When a Native American abducts a local missionary's daughter, the seven must find them before Four Corners erupts" - "Manhunt"
    seems to answer that question.
